Outdoor Garden Furniture On Display
September 18th, 2008
Outdoor garden furniture is just one of the subjects on display at this year’s annual GLEE Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham this coming weekend, the 21st - 23rd September.
What is GLEE I hear you ask? Well, it’s the biggest outdoor garden furniture event in the UK and infact covers everything to do with outdoor living including garden furniture, barbeques, parasols, chimneas, play equipment and spas!
What a feast of garden lifestyle!
You’ll find exclusive brands not seen at any other event, new products as well as established favourites and where better to get ideas for your outdoor space where everything you could possibly want is all under one roof.
One fascinating exhibitor is Fireworks International who amongst other things offer DIY packs - one with the curious name of “No Bang” packs! I thought all fireworks came with a “Bang”! However, wedding fireworks, giant candle bouquets and monster cakes probably have the edge for me. In Barcelona, Spain each June 23rd San Juan is celebrated with an all-night fireworks extravaganza, so next year I’m going to be better prepared to take on the locals with the pyro-technics.
What about the refined game of croquet? Find a myriad of garden games at the aptly named Garden Games company. Outdoor garden furniture is also much in evidence with a range of different materials and styles.
These are just a few of hundreds of ideas on show and of course we shall be there as well! Find us in the Outdoor Living Hall 2, stand number E03 - we would love to see you and show you our beautiful recycled outdoor garden furniture.

Please tell me how to trim garden roses.?
October 23rd, 2008
What/when/how much I have to cut in order to have flowers all the time ? Tx!
To cut them as we have for hundreds of years use good secateurs, trim hybrid T's down to about foot or 18'' according to its size. Florinda's need pruning lighter to about 2'-2.1/2'. I prune in early winter, just cut the tops off to stop 'wind rock' then in spring, early April, carry out the final pruning. Cut down to the heights given above about 1/4' above an outer facing bud. Yes at an angle, allows the rain to run off and not cause stem rot. there are some people these days say that they do theirs with a chain saw, but I've been doing them the old trad way for years and never had a bad season.

How can I get rid of greenfly and aphids from roses?
October 21st, 2008
Hi,
I have a lot of lovely roses in my garden and need to get rid of greenfly and aphids, but really don't want to use pesticides, does anyone have any other ideas I can use, I have heard garlic is suppose to help, is this true ? and how would you use it ? thanks
Try a product called Provado. Kills greenflies and aphids on contact and as it is a systemic insectacide will remain in the plants system for up to three months keeping the plant bug free.
Roseclear is also a very good product as it will see off the pests and also keep your plants free of disease.
If you would like to try something other than pesticides then try planting some dwarf lavender under the rose trees as they tend to keep aphids and greenfly away and also attract the preditors such as ladybirds, lacewings and hoverflies. If you combine this with some chives then blackspot may also be reduced.
If you intend using the soap method then remember not to apply it on a very sunny day and to wash it off after about 15 mins. Leaving it on will damage the plant.
Hope this helps you.

Choose Garden Furniture To Reflect Your Personal Tastes
October 20th, 2008
When buying patio furniture, you need to be sure to select a set that will enhance your deck and suit your own personal style. Your patio should be a relaxing, private space where you can entertain friends or enjoy the peace and quiet by yourself. The right choice of patio furniture can help to create the ultimate outdoor space to be enjoyed every day.
A wrought iron patio set can bring a romantic, decadent feel to your backyard. It is the purest form of iron and can be a good investment if it is powder coated to avoid rust, as it is durable enough to last for many years. Wrought iron furniture usually has a delicate ornamental style which, when combined with deep colored plants like lavender and rose bushes, can give a beautiful Victorian appeal to your garden space.
If you prefer a tropical island theme to your deck, wicker furniture represents the ultimate in Caribbean luxury. You can maintain the feeling of relaxing by the poolside on your latest vacation by choosing form a wide range of furniture that includes love seats and deep seated chairs. A chaise longe can also help you recreate the spring break cabana and allow you to lay back in comfort to work on that all-important suntan. Wicker furniture has the added advantage that you can brighten it up with bold colored, weather resistant cushions. You can change the cushions to alter the overall look of your deck and keep your style fresh, without having to regularly replace your furniture.
Perhaps a sophisticated urban style is more to your taste, in which case you might choose a contemporary aluminum patio set. Most suited to those who love to entertain by the poolside and want to turn heads at their next party. As well as being the ultimate in durability and comfort, the sleek designs of aluminum patio furniture are all you need to make your poolside look luxurious and fun. Investing in a high quality set will make you quite a trendsetter and ensure a good time is had by all at your next pool party.
For nature lovers, who want their garden to be a place of rest and contemplation, wooden patio furniture sets present the ideal solution. The color and texture of the wood you select can turn your deck into your own personal sanctuary; a place to relax in comfort and serenity. The choice between the rich golden tones of teak and the rustic ambers of cedar wood will make your space a truly personal one.
Whatever your style and preferences, you need to take time to select the right patio furniture to suit your personal needs and lifestyle. Investing in a good quality patio set that meets your needs and moods, will enable you to really enjoy relaxing in your outdoor space. You deserve a great place to kick back in complete luxury and investing in the right outdoor furniture can allow you to do that.

A Few Of The Virtues Of Teak Patio Furniture
October 18th, 2008
Teak patio furniture is becoming more popular each day as more designers explore the timeless charm of teak wood. It is a popular choice for manufacturers and consumers of outdoor furniture alike for many reasons. Teak patio furniture is both elegant and practical; the hardwood is well known for its durability and low maintenance qualities. It is resistant to water, bugs and any type of rot. Whether you use it indoors or outdoors, this furniture is very strong and is known for lasting up to 75 years. It is legendary for its resistance to weather. Teak patio furniture is the ideal choice for outdoor furniture and remains a sound investment. Teak is a natural product and it can be left out in the open all year round through rain, hail or shine. Its color will gradually mellow to a graceful silver gray. The character of your furniture will alter, but its strength will remain. An occasional scrub down with hot soapy water will compliment this process and discourage any moss growth.
In established gardens, weathered teak outdoor furniture, in lustrous hues of gray and silver, brings dignity and grace to the garden setting. With its quiet, stately presence, it harmonizes with existing structures and is instantly at home in gardens, old and new.
The best teak patio furniture is usually machine made because the equipment that is used guarantees that the pieces will be well constructed and uniform. You can rest easy when you discover a top quality teak chair at a great price.
Even though teak patio furniture is rather expensive, its demand is increasing every day. Generally price is dictated by the shape and weight of a piece of furniture. The more shape a piece has the more wood and time is required to create the piece. Thus, the furniture will be more expensive. Also, the heavier that the sections of wood are, the more costly the piece will be. Since teak patio furniture outlasts most other types of wood furnishings, it is worth every penny. It is the best choice for anyone who values both beauty and endurance. There is nothing like the look of natural wood in your yard or on your patio and teak patio furniture is classically elegant for outdoor spaces.
